What you can do on the trial

Everything in the app works during the 14 days. The trial uses Enterprise limits: unlimited users and sites, supplier data requests, more than one company with a group view and sites outside the UK with their own country's electricity factor. That is more than most businesses will buy, which is the point: you can try every feature and then choose the plan that fits.

The trial is a preview, not a free year of reports: it shows you exactly what you will get, with your own numbers, before you pay.

Get the most from your 14 days

  1. Sign up. Go to sign up, give your name, your organisation's name, your work email and a password. No card.
  2. Add your sites. On the Sites page, add each office, shop, depot or factory, or upload them all from a spreadsheet. Tagging data to a site lets you compare sites later.
  3. Import a year of bills. Pick your last complete financial year. On Import CSV, download the template for what you have (electricity, gas, fuel and so on), add one row per bill or fuel card statement, and upload it: every row is checked before anything is saved. Use the quantities on the bills (kWh and litres), not the cost.
  4. Add what you buy. On Import from your accounts, connect Xero, Sage or FreeAgent, or upload a CSV export of your purchase ledger from any package. We suggest what each account is, you check it, and the spend becomes a Scope 3 estimate. Electricity, gas and fuel are left out of this, because they are counted more accurately from the bills.
  5. Check the dashboard. The Overview shows your footprint for the year, emissions by month and your biggest sources. A gap in the months or a site with nothing against it usually means a missing bill.
  6. Preview your SECR report and Carbon Reduction Plan. On Reports, open each one. The Carbon Reduction Plan lists anything PPN 006 asks for that is still missing, such as a Scope 3 category or the board approval date. Fill in the details only you know.
  7. Choose a plan. On the Billing page, pick Starter, Growth or Enterprise. The reports switch from preview to the finished version, ready to print and download.

Not sure you need a report at all? The free SECR checker and Carbon Reduction Plan checker tell you in a minute, without signing up.

Choosing a plan at the end

The trial has more than you may need, so check what you used. One business with up to 2 sites needs Starter; up to 10 sites or supplier data requests needs Growth; several companies, more than 10 sites (100 are included) or sites outside the UK need Enterprise. Our page on which plan and add-ons you need works through six examples with monthly and yearly prices. Accountants trying it for a client should read carbon reporting for accountants.

Add-ons on the trial

The add-ons are coming soon. Once they are out, trial accounts will be able to try them view-only, in the same way as the reports. Each is its own subscription on top of a paid plan.

How Carbon Recycling helps

The trial is the quickest way to see your own SECR report or Carbon Reduction Plan: add a year of bills, and the app works out the emissions with the government's DESNZ factors and shows the factor and its ID against every figure. If you already have a report from someone else, the free report check looks it over without an account.
