Have your report open next to this page, copy in the figures it gives, and leave the rest blank. The results update as you type. This is an automatic check of the figures you enter, not an assurance review.

What the check looks at

CheckHow
Electricity and gas tonnesYour kWh multiplied by the DESNZ factor for the reporting year, compared with the tonnes in the report. A gap over 3% is flagged, with the likely cause.
Factor yearWhether the figures match a different year's factors. DESNZ asks for the set for the calendar year most of your period falls in.
Scope 2 both waysLocation-based must always be there. Market-based uses a REGO tariff, your supplier's figure or the UK residual mix.
The totalScope 1, 2 and 3 added up and compared with the report's total.
Carbon Reduction Plan contentsThe five PPN 006 Scope 3 categories, a baseline year, net zero by 2050, director sign-off and publication.
SECR contentsTotal UK energy in kWh, an intensity ratio and a methodology statement.

If it finds a problem

Fix it before the report goes out: a buyer or auditor who spots one wrong figure tends to question the rest. Our kWh to CO2e calculator gives the right Scope 1 and 2 figures for each fuel, and our guide to Carbon Reduction Plans and PPN 006 covers what each section needs. For the two Scope 2 figures, see location-based vs market-based.

How Carbon Recycling helps

Carbon Recycling works out your footprint from your bills and records with the right year's government factors, reports Scope 2 both ways, and produces your Carbon Reduction Plan and SECR figures from the same data, so the checks above pass by design. Every figure shows the factor and year behind it.
