The Report check went live on 19 October 2026. It is for anyone with a plan or report already written, by themselves or by a consultant, who wants to catch mistakes before a buyer or auditor does.
Why we built it
The same few errors turn up again and again in published plans: last year's factors used for this year, kWh and MWh mixed up, a total that doesn't add up. Each is easy to fix once you know it's there, and hard to spot by reading the report. A buyer who finds one wrong figure tends to question the rest.
What it checks
- Electricity and gas: your kWh times the DESNZ factor for the reporting year, compared with the tonnes in the report. A gap over 3% is flagged with the likely cause.
- The factor year, the kWh and MWh mix-up, grid losses counted in Scope 2, and gas worked out on a net instead of gross basis.
- Whether Scope 1, 2 and 3 add up to the total the report gives.
- Scope 2: a location-based figure must be there, and a market-based figure with no tariff or supplier figure should use the UK residual mix.
- For a Carbon Reduction Plan: the five PPN 006 Scope 3 categories, a baseline year, net zero by 2050, director sign-off and publication.
- For an SECR report: total UK energy in kWh, an intensity ratio and a methodology statement.
How to use it
Open your report next to the tool, choose Carbon Reduction Plan or SECR report, and copy in the figures it gives. Leave anything it doesn't give blank. The results update as you type, with a plain-English reason and the sum behind each one. The factors come from the same calculation engine our app uses, so the tool and our reports can't disagree.

How Carbon Recycling helps
If the check finds problems, Carbon Recycling can rebuild the figures from your bills and records with the right year's government factors, report Scope 2 both ways, and produce the Carbon Reduction Plan and SECR figures from the same data. Our guide to writing a PPN 006 plan covers what each section needs.
