Free check shows businesses the Climate Change Levy they shouldn't be paying
A free Climate Change Levy check works out the levy a site should pay, the reliefs it may be missing and what it could claim back for four years.
For immediate release ·
Brighton, 21 October 2026: Carbon Recycling has launched a free Climate Change Levy check. A business answers five questions about a site, and the check shows the levy it should be paying on its electricity and gas bills, any reliefs it appears to be missing and how much it could claim back.
The Climate Change Levy is charged on business energy at £0.00801 per kWh of electricity and of gas from 1 April 2026, rising to £0.00827 from 1 April 2027. Some supplies shouldn't carry it at all, such as very small supplies, charities' non-business use and energy used in metal and mineral processes, while sites in a Climate Change Agreement pay a reduced rate. Levy charged in error can usually be reclaimed through the supplier for up to four years.
The rules come from HMRC's published rates and Excise Notice CCL1/3, and every source is listed on the tool's page. The check is free, needs no sign-up and is at carbonrecycling.co.uk/tools/climate-change-levy-check.
