Work out your united Arab Emirates hotel stay emissions

= 1.28 tonnes CO2e in 2026 (Scope 3)

Each room night × 63.800 kg CO2e, the 2026 UK government (DESNZ) factor.

Worked example

Take 20 hotel nights a year for staff visiting customers in United Arab Emirates. 20 room nights × 63.800 kg CO2e = 1.28 tonnes CO2e, reported as Scope 3, category 6 (business travel).

How to report it

Hotel stays are Scope 3 category 6, business travel. The government publishes a factor for each country because a hotel's emissions depend mostly on the local electricity grid and how much heating or cooling it needs.

Count room nights, not people: two colleagues sharing a room is one room night. Record each country separately so the right factor is used.

Where the data comes from

You'll usually find it in your booking system or expenses, as the number of room nights in each country. Keep the source documents: anyone checking your Carbon Reduction Plan or SECR report may ask how each figure was worked out.
