What are the Simpler Recycling rules?

Since 31 March 2025, every business, charity and public sector organisation in England must keep dry recyclables (glass, metal, plastic, and paper and card), food waste and general waste apart. Micro-firms, with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees, have until 31 March 2027. Paper and card must be collected separately from the other dry recycling unless the collector has assessed in writing that this isn't practicable.

What does the waste log keep?

The year's waste in tonnes by stream, from the waste you record for your carbon footprint; the share recycled, composted or anaerobically digested; and each collector, with their waste carrier registration, what they collect, and whether you hold a co-collection assessment.

Does it work outside England?

The waste figures and collector list work anywhere. The Simpler Recycling check is for England only: Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own rules, and the log points you to them.

Is this a compliance certificate?

No. It's a record and a check against the published guidance. The Environment Agency enforces the rules.

What does it need underneath?

Any paid plan, because it works from the waste you record. The log is £9 + VAT a month, or £90 + VAT a year paid upfront, with a 12-month minimum.
