Simpler Recycling check: does your workplace meet the new rules?
Lühidalt
Since 31 March 2025, every workplace in England must keep dry recyclables (glass, metal, plastic, and paper and card), food waste and general waste apart, with paper and card collected separately unless the collector has assessed in writing that it can't be. Micro-firms with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees have until 31 March 2027.

A few questions about your workplace. You'll see whether the rules already apply to you, or the date they will, and anything in how your waste is collected that doesn't match them. We don't ask for your name or email.

Where Carbon Recycling helps
Waste is part of your carbon footprint, in Scope 3. Every plan records your waste by material and how it was treated. The waste log add-on keeps the year's tonnes by stream, your recycling rate and the collectors you use, with their carrier registration and co-collection assessments, in one place.

›What is Simpler Recycling for businesses?
Rules in England that require every business, charity and public sector organisation to keep three kinds of waste apart: dry recyclables (glass, metal, plastic, and paper and card), food waste, and general (residual) waste. They started on 31 March 2025.
›When do micro-firms have to comply?
By 31 March 2027. A micro-firm has fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees across the whole business. Part-time staff count pro rata by hours; volunteers, contractors and self-employed workers don't count. Micro-firms don't need to register for the later date.
›Can paper and card go in with the other recycling?
Paper and card must be collected separately from plastic, metal and glass, unless that isn't technically or economically practicable or has no significant environmental benefit. In that case your waste collector must complete a written co-collection assessment.
›Do I have to use the council for collections?
No. You can use your local authority or a private company, and more than one provider. The collector must be registered on the Public Register of Waste Carriers, Brokers and Dealers.
›Who enforces the rules?
The Environment Agency. It can issue compliance notices to workplaces and private waste collectors, and failing to comply with a notice is an offence.
›What about Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland?
Simpler Recycling covers England. Wales has its own workplace recycling law, already in force for all workplaces. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own waste rules.
