ESOS Phase 4 pack: your energy data ready for the 2027 deadline

Large UK businesses must notify ESOS Phase 4 compliance by 5 December 2027. The pack turns the energy you already record into what ESOS asks for: total consumption over the reference period, the 95% your audits must cover, energy intensity ratios and a draft action plan, ready for your lead assessor.

Kome je namijenjeno

  • UK companies with 250 or more employees, or turnover over £44 million and a balance sheet over £38 million.
  • Smaller companies in a group with a large UK company.
  • Finance and facilities teams who want the data ready before the lead assessor starts.

Što radi

  • A qualification check against the Phase 4 thresholds.
  • Total UK energy consumption in kWh for your 12-month reference period, with how many months have data.
  • The energy uses making up at least 95% of the total, and those within the 5% that may be excluded.
  • Energy intensity ratios for buildings, transport, industrial processes and other uses.
  • Whether you need a lead assessor, the deadlines with days left, and a draft action plan list.
  • An energy summary to copy for your lead assessor.

Što nije

The pack doesn't provide a lead assessor, carry out energy audits or notify the regulator. It organises your data against the published Phase 4 rules. For the scheme in full, read our ESOS guide.

Pitanja

Who has to comply with ESOS Phase 4?
UK undertakings that are large on 31 December 2026: 250 or more employees, or an annual turnover over £44 million and a balance sheet total over £38 million. Groups take part together, so a smaller company in a group with a large UK undertaking is included. The pack's check gives a first view from your answers; the guidance and your lead assessor decide.
What are the deadlines?
The qualification date is 31 December 2026. You notify compliance by 5 December 2027, complete your ESOS action plan by 5 December 2028, and report progress in 2029 and 2030.
Do I still need a lead assessor?
Yes, unless your total energy consumption is under 40,000 kWh, you use no energy, or ISO 50001 certification covers at least 95% of your energy use. You appoint the lead assessor yourself. The pack gives them your energy data in the form ESOS asks for, so they start from your figures.
What does the pack work out?
Your total UK energy consumption in kWh for a 12-month reference period that includes 31 December 2026, split into buildings, transport, industrial processes and other uses; the energy uses that make up at least 95% of the total, which your audits must cover; an energy intensity ratio for each kind of use; and a draft list of action plan measures with their energy savings, taken from the net zero planner if you use it.
Is it an ESOS assessment?
No. It organises your data and the rules so the assessment is quicker. It doesn't carry out audits, sign off compliance or notify the regulator. Your directors and your lead assessor do that.
What does it need underneath?
Any paid plan, because it works from the energy you record for your carbon reporting. The pack is £79 + VAT a month, or £790 + VAT a year paid upfront, with a 12-month minimum.
