Two additions to our free emission factor pages went live on 23 October 2026, both for UK businesses with suppliers or sites in Asia.
China: one page for each province and regional grid
China's grid varies a lot from place to place. In 2023 the national average was 0.5306 kg CO2 per kWh, but the provincial figures ran from 0.1333 in Yunnan to 0.6796 in Tianjin. Our new China hub lists every province with its Chinese name and regional grid, and links to 30 province pages and 7 regional grid pages. Each page has the figure for every published year, a calculator, a worked example and what the figure covers. For example,Guangdong was 0.4419 kg CO2 per kWh in 2023, and the South China grid it sits on was 0.4042.
The figures come from three joint announcements by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the National Bureau of Statistics, which say they are for working out the CO2 from electricity use. We checked the 2023 figures against the published tables on the day.
Who it helps
If you buy from a factory in China, the electricity it uses is part of the carbon in what you buy, which lands in your Scope 3. As an illustration, a supplier using 500,000 kWh a year would be put at about 265 tonnes of CO2 on the national figure, or 221 tonnes on Guangdong's, or 340 tonnes on Tianjin's. So when a supplier sends you a carbon figure, whether for your footprint or alongside a CBAM data request, ask which electricity factor they used and check it against their province's page. For CBAM itself, the supplier's verified figure is what counts; these pages don't replace it.
Singapore: the official figure now runs to 2025
The Energy Market Authority's open dataset stopped at 2020. Its Singapore Energy Statistics 2026 carries the grid emission factor to 2025: 0.409 in 2021, 0.417 in 2022, 0.412 in 2023, 0.401 in 2024 and 0.404 in 2025, all kg CO2 per kWh. The Singapore electricity page now shows the series to 2025. In the app, Singapore sites use this figure for reporting years from 2021, where before they had the 2020 EMA figure for 2021 and Ember's estimate from 2022. Entries saved earlier keep their old figure until your footprint is recalculated, which happens when you change a calculation setting or a site's country.
איך Carbon Recycling עוזרת
Every factor page is free to use without an account, and the electricity CO2e by country tool converts kWh for a site anywhere. In the app you can give each site its country, so overseas electricity is worked out on that country's grid and kept in one footprint alongside your UK sites. Our earlier posts cover the official overseas factors we use and thepages for Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US.
